Golf Cart Garage Doors: Everything You Need to Know

Are you looking at golf cart garage doors? If so, you’re in the right place! In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about them. We will cover the details you need to know to make an informed decision before purchasing one.

Golf Cart Garage Door Sizes

If you’re shopping for a replacement, then determining size is straightforward. Measure the interior width and height of your door and you’re ready to start shopping. Size, material, and optional upgrades like insulation, and decorative hardware determine the price. But, the first step is to know your size.

If you’re building a new home that includes a golf cart garage door, confirm the dimensions of your golf cart and then give yourself a bit of room on both sides. After a quick Google search, we found that most golf carts are roughly 48″ or 4 feet wide. Height and length vary based on the number of passengers (2, 4, or 6) and if your cart is lifted or not. Lifted golf carts from Club Car can top out at 82″ tall, requiring an 8′ tall door.

Based on specs from traditional golf cart brands like Club Car, Yamaha, and the bubbly Gem, we are confident a 5′ or 6′ wide by 7′ or 8′ tall garage door will accommodate your neighborhood vehicle.

Contact your local HOA before planning to incorporate a golf cart garage door. Some communities may not allow a golf cart garage door to be visible from the curb. While others may require it to match the material and finish of your other garage doors.

Utility Vehicles Garage Door Sizes

If golf carts are for leisure, utility vehicles from Kawasaki and HuntVe are tools used on farms and ranches to get work done. Wider utility vehicles are going to need garage door widths of at least 6′. With widths ranging from 57″ for a HuntVe 4×4 to 64″ for a Kawasaki MulePro-FX, you can rule out 5′ wide garage doors.

Note: will provide garage door services in exchange for horseback rides and bunk house accommodations in Colorado, Hawaii, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah. 😆

Does Amarr make golf cart garage doors?

Amarr’s standard residential doors start at 8′ wide.

Does Clopay make golf cart garage doors?

From Clopay’s website: “Standard residential door widths are 8′, 9′, 10′, 12′, 14′, 15′, 15’6″, 16′, and 18′. Some models can be custom ordered in 2″ increments (8’2″, 8’4″, 8’6”, etc.). Check with your local dealer or retailer for custom garage doors width/model availability. Standard door heights are from 6′ to 8′ in 3″ increments, except for 7’3″. Most residential garage doors are now available in extended heights up to 16′. Check with your local dealer or retailer for custom garage doors extended height/model availability.”

Clopay can’t match a smaller door for a utility vehicle to a standard garage door.

Can I buy a 5′ wide full-view garage door?

We haven’t found one from a big brand like Amarr, Clopay, or Garaga. However, at Doorvana, we can build a full-view garage door to spec.

Can I buy a custom size garage door?

Yes. From Doorvana, our wood garage doors have a max width of 24′ and a max height of 20′, but we can’t build a 24′ x 20′. We can build a 24′ x 7′ or an 8′ x 20′. If that’s confusing, and we agree with you that it kind of is, give us a call and we’ll talk about it.

Most large garage door manufacturers aren’t equipped to adjust their machines to produce a single custom-size door. Steel doors especially have to be built within strict parameters because the sections are stamped by machines that don’t deviate easily. Think of a giant steam roller pressing texture and forming into sheets of steel.

Clopay offers standard widths of 8′, 9′, 10′, 12′, 14′, 15′, 15’6″, 16′, and 18′ and some models can be custom ordered in certain 2″ increments.

If you are building a home and want/need a custom size garage door, we suggest wood.

What type of opener do I need for a golf cart garage door?

Like the hardware, the garage door opener for a golf cart garage door will be the same as a one-car garage door. While the operator will be more powerful than you need, there aren’t operators built for doors smaller than the standard 7′ or 8′ wide door.
