CHI Raised Panel
Common Questions
Why is CHI Raised Panel considered the most versatile door?
CHI Raised Panel is CHI’s most popular and adaptable collection, featuring traditional raised panel design that complements virtually any architectural style—from Colonial and Craftsman to Ranch and Contemporary. Available in both long-panel (2 large sections) and short-panel (4 sections) configurations, Raised Panel works with traditional homes that prefer classic details and modern homes that seek understated elegance. With options for 24-, 25-, 27-, or 28-gauge steel, insulation choices from non-insulated to R-17.19 polyurethane, 33 window styles, and 10 solid colors plus 7 woodtones plus 180+ custom colors, Raised Panel offers the most combinations in CHI’s lineup.
What's the difference between long panel and short panel designs?
Long panel Raised Panel doors feature 2 large horizontal sections creating a cleaner, more streamlined contemporary appearance with less visual segmentation. Short panel doors have 4 sections, creating a more traditional, segmented appearance with additional horizontal lines. Long panels work well with modern, transitional, and ranch homes where simpler lines are desired. Short panels are ideal for Colonial, Victorian, Craftsman, and traditional homes where segmented panels echo traditional door construction. Both offer identical material, insulation, window, and color options—the choice is purely aesthetic, based on your home’s architectural style and personal preference.
What insulation and R-value options are available?
CHI Raised Panel offers the full range of insulation options. Non-insulated (Good): 24- or 25-gauge steel, single layer, R-0, most economical for detached garages in mild climates. Polystyrene insulated (Better): 1 or 2-sided steel with polystyrene, R-values approximately 6.5-12, good thermal performance at mid-range pricing. Polyurethane insulated (Best): 2-sided steel (27-gauge) with polyurethane foam, R-values up to 17.19, premium energy efficiency, superior sound dampening, and maximum structural strength—recommended for attached garages, climate-controlled applications, or areas with temperature extremes.
What window and glass options does Raised Panel offer?
CHI Raised Panel offers 33 window styles—CHI’s most extensive window selection—including rectangles, squares, arches, cathedral tops, and specialty designs. Windows can be placed across top section, down sides, or in custom configurations. Glass options include plain/clear (maximum light), obscure (privacy with light), seeded (vintage texture), glue chip (frosted decorative pattern), tinted (solar control), and insulated (energy efficiency). Some window styles feature decorative grilles or muntins to add traditional character. This flexibility allows you to create anything from simple modern windows to ornate traditional designs perfectly matched to your architecture.
Are CHI Accents Woodtones available on Raised Panel?
Yes, CHI Raised Panel is available in 9 wood-tone accents, providing a realistic faux-wood appearance: Walnut, Dark Oak, Natural Oak, Cedar, Mahogany, Driftwood, Carbon Oak, and additional premium finishes. The Accents Woodtones process uses digitally scanned real-wood grain patterns (non-repeating), embossed textures for dimensional depth, and realistic color variations—creating one of the most convincing faux-wood finishes available. Raised-panel design showcases the wood grain beautifully, with dimensional panels catching light differently from flat surfaces. Accents Woodtones provides authentic wood aesthetics without the need for wood maintenance, warping, or rot—ideal for homeowners seeking a traditional wood appearance with steel durability and low maintenance.
