CHI Overlay Carriage House

CHI Overlay Carriage House doors are available in three premium materials: steel (most popular), real wood (Western Red Cedar or Fijian Genuine Mahogany), and fiberglass. The steel option features 25- or 27-gauge steel with composite or wood overlay laminated to insulated base sections. Wood options provide authentic tongue-and-groove construction with cedar or mahogany boards laminated to a steel backing. Fiberglass features an impact-resistant beadboard texture with poly-accent battens. All three materials are backed by steel for structural integrity and are available with 2-” insulated base sections.

CHI Overlay Carriage House doors offer excellent insulation with R-values ranging from R-10.29 to R-18.03, depending on the series and insulation type. The 5300 steel series provides R-10.29 with 1-13/16″ polystyrene insulation. The 5600 steel series delivers R-17.54 with polyurethane insulation. The 5500 fiberglass series offers R-10.67 with polystyrene insulation, while the 5800 fiberglass series provides R-17.92 with polyurethane. All doors feature 2″ thick, CFC-free, insulated base sections for energy efficiency and noise reduction.

CHI Overlay Carriage House offers 24 door panel designs (12 square-top and 12 arched-top configurations), providing extensive design flexibility. You can choose from 33 window styles, including square, arched, and specialty options, with 6 glass types (plain, faux wood, tinted, glue chip, obscure, and seeded). Faux windows are available with black backgrounds and can be combined with functional window sections. Each design can be customized with coordinating decorative hardware in Spade, Barcelona, or Wrought Iron styles to complete the authentic carriage house appearance.

CHI Overlay Carriage House doors are available in multiple color configurations. Steel doors come in 4 solid colors (including sandtone and white), 2 woodtone finishes, and 3 two-tone color combinations. Wood options (cedar and mahogany) are manufactured unfinished for field painting or staining to your exact specifications. CHI also offers custom powder coating in 188 colors through its in-house facility, plus custom color matching for unique requirements.

Wood-grained steel interiors are pre-finished in white, providing a clean, finished look from inside the garage.

CHI Overlay Carriage House doors feature 4-layer construction for superior performance. Layer 1 is exterior steel (25- or 27-gauge). Layer 2 is CFC-free polystyrene or polyurethane insulation (1-13/16″ to 1-7/8″ thick). Layer 3 is an interior steel backing with a wood-grain texture, pre-finished in white. Layer 4 is the composite or real-wood overlay with accent battens, laminated with high-performance adhesives. This multi-layer system provides structural strength, thermal efficiency, authentic appearance, and long-lasting durability in a 2-inch thick door section.

CHI provides comprehensive warranty coverage for Overlay Carriage House doors. The door sections carry a limited lifetime warranty for the original purchaser. The paint finish also includes a lifetime warranty. Overlays are covered for 1-3 years, depending on the material (3 years for most overlays). Hardware receives a 6-year warranty. Torsion springs are warranted for 3 years. All warranties are hassle-free and straightforward. To submit a warranty claim, contact your local CHI dealer with your door code from the original purchase receipt. Registration is not required for warranty coverage.
