How Much Do Glass Garage Doors Cost?

glass garage door costs

Glass garage doors are a popular way to spruce up your curb appeal. Upgrading your garage door consistently ranks as the best bang for your buck, providing the highest ROI of any home improvement project.

The budget is probably top of mind if you’re in the early stages of building your home or replacing your garage door. We wrote this article, “how much do glass garage doors cost?” to help you plan for your beautiful new glass door.

At Doorvana, we offer various full-view or glass garage doors from different vendors. Overhead Door, Clopay, Wayne Dalton, and Amarr build modern glass and aluminum garage doors. However, our article will focus on the Amarr Vista and Amarr Horizon doors because they are our best sellers due to their quality, lead time, and price.

Types of glass garage doors

Glass garage doors come in two primary styles. Both styles lean modern or contemporary, but one costs significantly more and has yet to be purchased by our roster of custom home builders or homeowners.

  1. The first and most common glass garage door is called a full-view garage door. It is typically built from aluminum frames and glass and has the typical grid pattern with large individual glass panels.
  2. A frameless garage door is the most expensive glass garage door. When installed, the garage door looks like a solid segmented piece of glass because the frame is underneath the glass. This mirror finish, free of structural support, delivers on wow factor. It is also significantly more expensive than a regular full-view garage door, so we have never sold or installed one.

We have built a pricing table with sizes and details to help you budget and give you an idea of what glass garage doors cost. We could not build all possible combinations, so we stuck with four standard garage door sizes in varying finishes.

We chose to highlight the Amarr Vista because it is our go-to glass garage door. When a homeowner or builder wants a modern garage door with clear or frosted glass, this is where we start. It has a lower entry price than the Horizon with a more common design.

Factors that impact the price of glass garage doors

Brand & Series

We highlighted the two glass garage door styles from Amarr because we’re a preferred vendor, love their quality, and have confidence in their production schedules. Wayne Dalton, Clopay, and Overhead all make glass and aluminum modern garage doors. If you’re looking for additional pricing on those, we can help but we can’t publish a price list as we do for Amarr garage doors.

Size

Standard-size garage doors will typically cost less money than custom. If you’re designing or building a new home, talk with your builder and framer to prep the opening to receive a standard-size garage door.

The relationship between garage door size and price is a positive one. When the size goes up, so does the price. An 18′ x 8′ glass garage door will cost nearly three times the cost of an 8′ x 8′ door.

We have an article on standard garage door sizes if you want more information.

Glass Options

Glass options for garage doors cover the finish and type. Glass impacts the price because of its availability and weight. More weight typically equals more cost.

Standard glass finishes

  • Clear
  • Obscure
  • Frost
  • Snow
  • Whiteout (zero visibility)
  • Gray
  • Black (zero visibility)

Standard glass types

  • 1/8″ clear tempered
  • 1/8″ clear acrylic
  • 1/4″ clear tempered
  • 1/4″ diamond wire
  • 1/2″ IG clear tempered
  • 1/2″ IG clear annealed

What does IG mean?

IG refers to insulated glass when two pieces are put together using an exterior seal. This weathertight piece of glass is heavier than a single piece but may last longer and provide increased energy efficiency.

Frame Finish/Color

Amarr offers four finish options. It’s common for in-stock finishes to cost less than special-order finishes. While custom colors are available in different finishes, we recommend working with a color the vendor offers.

However, if you need a specific color to match, the Amarr Vista comes in RAL & custom colors available for powder coat & PVDF.
